There is a change in the roll out of the My Health Record from the initial Opt-In to an Opt Out system.
From now and until 15 October 2018 patients can choose not to have a My Health Record. If by this date they have not opted out, a record will be created for them.
Unfortunately we are not authorised to do the “opt out” for any patient. Patients can call the Help Line : 1800 723 471, or find the “Cancel My Health Record” button under the “Profile” menu within their record, on the My Health Record website.
After this date (15/10/2018) patients can still choose to opt out of the MHR at any time.
Data security has been upgraded to military level security and the Government believe all health records will be securely stored. Access to the records can be “Personally Controlled” by each patient. Access controls in each record exist so that patients can elect to only provide access to selected healthcare providers. Controlling access to specific documents to limit who can view them. Give access to a nominated family member or representative.
Emergency situations may arise where health care providers may need to “break glass” to access basic information e.g. allergies, medications, immunisations, past history.
Doctors of this clinic will ask patients if they are happy for us to upload their medical information. In this way we will be providing certain details from our clinical records to the MHR. This way there will really be no change from our current process.
Pamphlets and hand outs are available for all patients in the waiting room (above the bookshelf).
Patients who would like to discuss this further can be referred to the Practise Manager, Inez.
The MHR should provide a better connected health system. Resulting in safer, faster and more efficient care for all patients and their families
